Why is WIC important?

WIC provides nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care and social services for millions of low-income families, and it plays a crucial role in improving lifetime health for women, their infants, and young children. Part of the nation’s nutrition safety net for 50 years, WIC now serves over 6 million pregnant and post-partum women, infants, and children through their fifth birthday.

Our Goals

“I was a participant here before becoming a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. I remember when I had my daughter, I didn't know I had all this support. I feel really lucky to be able to offer it to others now. I go to the hospital twice a week to help new mothers with breastfeeding and healthy ways to eat. It's the best job I can imagine.”
