Storm Recovery Info Sessions for Boulder Creek & Ben Lomond residents
Community Bridges and United Policyholders hosted a storm recovery information session on Monday, April 10, 2023 at 6pm for residents of Ben Lomond and Boulder Creek affected by recent wind storms. Topics included recovery assistance and resources, insurance claims information, damage assessment and disaster case management.

Recovery 101 Training (for survivors, approx 1 hour)

  • Basic FEMA information – award amounts available to each survivor, why they may need to apply to the SBA, the importance of appealing, how to advocate for yourself, how to prove ownership, protecting yourself against scams – people pretending to be FEMA
  • Working with insurance – properly documenting damage, the difference between homeowners insurance and flood insurance, how to advocate for a full settlement award
  • Working with contractors and understanding how to avoid contractor fraud
  • Mold suppression – which products to use (and which products not to use) and techniques on how to safely suppress mold.

Community Bridges hosted storm recovery information sessions for residents of Santa Cruz and Monterey counties via Zoom and in person. Experts on insurance and emergency response were present to answer questions, and we also connected attendees with resources available to them through our community partners. Please be aware of the ongoing fire at the Moss Landing Power Plant. Shelter-in-place warnings are in effect nearby, and traffic on Highway 1 may be impacted.Please stay informed, follow guidance from local officials, and avoid the area if possible. Stay safe, everyone. 💚STRUCTURE FIRE – MOSS LANDING POWER PLANTFirefighters from the North Monterey County Fire District were dispatched to the Moss Landing Power Plant just after 6:15 a.m. for a reported structure fire.Crews arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the north side of the facility. Firefighters are on scene conducting evacuations and accounting for plant personnel while working to stabilize the incident.Shelter-in-place warnings are in effect for areas near the incident. There is also an impact to traffic on Highway 1 in the Moss Landing area. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and allow emergency crews access.Additional information will be provided as it becomes available. ...
