Community Bridges CEO Named to Meals on Wheels California Board of Directors

Santa Cruz County, CA — Meals on Wheels California (MOWCA) is appointing Community Bridges CEO Raymon Cancino to the Board that oversees statewide advocacy efforts in affiliation with Meals on Wheels America.

Meals on Wheels California unifies the voices of more than 200 Meals on Wheels and senior nutrition programs throughout the state of California. The organization has played an active role in advocating for increased funding for food security and senior nutrition programs due to increased demand during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Like so many non-profit leaders, Community Bridges was challenged to respond to unprecedented demands resulting from the twin challenges of the pandemic and the CZU Wildfire that devastated parts of Santa Cruz County,” said Ashley McCumber, MOWCA President and Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of San Francisco “Under Ray’s leadership, Meals on Wheels Santa Cruz County served more than 360,000 meals over the past 18 months, nearly double the number of meals served the prior year and created new avenues and partnerships with PG&E that allowed the needs of seniors to be meet during PSPS events throughout California. We’re thrilled to welcome someone with Ray’s energy and vision to our Board.”

“There has always been a hidden epidemic of food insecurity but the pandemic helped shed some light on the level of remaining need,” said Community Bridges CEO and MOWCA Board Member Raymon Cancino. “In some ways, the increased demand we saw during the pandemic will probably be the new normal and I’m eager to support the statewide efforts to raise awareness about the need for additional funding that will be required to support senior nutrition going forward.”
