As food costs continue to rise, these dedicated volunteers stepped up once again to help stretch our pantry budget. Together, they raised more than $600, along with grocery gift cards, to purchase extra eggs and staples for families in our community.Our Pantry Posse is the heart of our weekly food pantry program. At Community Bridges, we know prevention is one of the most powerful tools we have to protect dignity, stability, and community.A new CalMatters story highlights what we see every day: one of the most effective ways to address homelessness is to prevent it before it begins.In Santa Clara County, a homelessness prevention program evaluated by the University of Notre Dame found that people who received prevention support were 78% less likely to become homeless than people in similar situations who did not receive help. That model is now expanding to 10 pilot communities across the country.Here in Santa Cruz County and the Pajaro Valley, Community Bridges is already putting this prevention-first approach into action through our Family Resource Collective’s Eviction Defense Collaborative.In partnership with Tenant Sanctuary, Senior Legal Services, and the Conflict Resolution Center of Santa Cruz County, the Collaborative provides free support for tenants and landlords to help prevent evictions, resolve disputes, and keep vulnerable residents safely housed.Because housing stability is more than a roof overhead. It means children can stay in school, older adults can remain connected to care, families can plan for tomorrow, and neighbors can stay rooted in the communities they call home.Prevention works.
