When the Pajaro River levee broke on March 11, 2023, our Community Bridges team didn’t wait for help to arrive—we became it. Within hours, staff from across our programs mobilized to coordinate aid, transport evacuees, and deliver food, diapers, blankets, and other essentials. Their quick action and compassion helped stabilize a community in crisis as hundreds of homes were flooded and thousands displaced. In the weeks that followed, our Family Resource Collective (FRC) team evolved into Disaster Case Managers (DCM), working around the clock to meet urgent needs—distributing meals and water, helping families contact loved ones, developing an equity-based funding model to distribute aid, and connecting evacuees to housing, healthcare, and public benefits. We also opened the first temporary resource center in Pajaro, ensuring residents could access bilingual, culturally responsive support and begin rebuilding their lives with dignity.Thirty months later, we’re still here.Next month, our DCM team—alongside Catholic Charities Diocese of Monterey—will complete the final phase of the Pajaro Unmet Needs Disaster Assistance Program, funded by the State of California. Through their tireless work, more than 700 households will have received over $4.6 million in recovery aid, helping families rebuild and regain stability. We are deeply grateful to our incredible FRC and DCM team—Ana, Patricia, Jim, Monica, and Susie—whose compassion, resilience, and skill turned chaos into coordination and despair into progress. This work has not been easy, but your dedication to Pajaro’s flood-impacted residents has made all the difference. 💚#CommunityBridges #FamilyResourceCollective #EssentialServices #Pajaro #SantaCruzCounty ...
